Only variable references should be returned by reference in php-irc-2.2.1/irc.php on line 315

To get rid of the notice I just changed line 315 to

$empty = NULL;
return $empty;

Not been using reference passing much but as far as I can understand you need to return a reference to a variable.

the bot was coded with notice turned off in the php ini file. that's where all the references are coming from. just change that in your php.ini file to get rid of them. there are wayyyyy too many places in the bot where there are notices to list them all with bug reports, trust me ;-) PHP changed the php.ini to display notices somewhere in php 5.1 i think? Since php-irc hasn't been developed too much since pre 5.1 these notices haven't really been taken care of. thanks for your report, but i'm afraid i just don't have the time now to fix all the code.

I noticed after posting this. I have always run with E_ALL on while developing so I tend to think all do ;)

Great bot btw :D
